When Deb Hubsmith founded the Safe Routes Partnership in 2005, she knew that it would take an ecosystem of support and energetic passion to lead a movement for healthy, active schools and communities. She knew that the desire for change had to start with students, with parents, with teachers, and with principals – and that there needed to be supportive policies, practitioners, and decision makers to create an environment for those schools to succeed.
That’s why she established an organization based on partnerships, aiming to connect local and state partners with each other to share successes and grow the Safe Routes to School movement together. Over the course of ten years, Deb broadened her vision for safe streets to go beyond schools. She dedicated her career and life to creating healthy, active people, streets, and neighborhoods in every community nationwide.
