Plan Bay Area Update Advances as Advocates Weigh In

The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) and the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) at a joint planning and administrative committee meeting advanced a preferred land use scenario toward the development of Plan Bay Area 2040. The Preferred Scenario represents a regional pattern of household and employment growth by the year 2040, and includes a corresponding transportation investment strategy.

Advocates Call for Stricter Change on Department of Pesticide Regulation's Policy for Schools

Safe Routes Partnership and Leadership Counsel for Justice and Accountability (Leadership Counsel) commented on the Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR)’s policy for pesticide application near schools. DPR’s new draft regulation would require that agriculture growers notify schools and day care centers when companies plan to spray pesticides in the area and prohibit the application during schools site sessions. The policy also would create 1/4 mile protection zone during school hours and also includes provisions on application methods.

Caltrans Finalizes Statewide Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan

Caltrans has adopted “Toward an Active California,” the State’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan. This document is California’s first statewide plan that lays out the policies and actions that Caltrans and its partner agencies will take to achieve the department’s ambitious statewide goals to double walking and triple bicycling trips by 2020.

Legislative Update: Bills Supporting Active Transportation & Safe Routes to School

We are excited to be working with our statewide coalition partners to advance a number of bills in this year’s legislative session, including a Transportation Equity Package of bills that together will improve sustainable, affordable transportation options across the state, especially for low-income Californians.
