Morongo Valley Basin's Active Transportation Plan Integrates Art into Safe Routes to School

The Morongo Valley Basin in Southern California, which includes the areas of Joshua Tree, Yucca Valley and Twentynine Palms in San Bernardino County, is embarking on the development of an Active Transportation Plan. The Morongo Valley Active Transportation Plan (MV Plan) has developed a stakeholder committee to discuss and provide major feedback for the plan--which will include Safe Routes to School components and walking/biking connections to Joshua Tree National Park.

Get Involved in our Active Transportation Networks!

The Safe Routes Partnership facilitates regional active transportation networks (ATNs) in several locations throughout California with quarterly meetings. These ATNs serve as an informational hub for community based organizations and public agencies to share information on best practices and upcoming funding competitions and to engage in increasing active transportation investments and policy.  


Talking Environmental Justice in Orange County

In January, the Alliance for Healthy Orange County held a convening on SB 1000, the law requiring that general plans include an environmental justice (EJ) element. The convening brought together over 60 planners and community-based representatives to discuss and gather input on what environmental justice means in Orange County and how to move forward to ensure the region develops strong plans.

Measure A Draft Grant Guidelines: Read Our Comment Letter and Get Involved

The Safe Routes Partnership submitted a comment letter to the Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District (RPOSD) regarding the Measure A Draft Grant Guidelines. Our recommendations focus on improving equity considerations, community engagement, project evaluation criteria, and discussion around concurrent funding measures in the LA County.

Orange County Cities Partner Up to get Residents Moving

As part of SCAG’s ongoing Go Human campaign, the cities of Santa Ana, Westminster and Garden Grove, along with leadership from County of Orange District 1 Supervisor Andrew Do’s office, recently held Redefine Hazard Avenue. The event brought a temporary bike lane to what is a corridor where cyclists and pedestrians normally feel unwelcomed.

Chalk, Walk & Roll in Orange County - Cast Your Vote!

As part of ongoing engagement for OC Active, OCTA is leading a chalk art contest and providing students with opportunity to win a skateboard or bike rack for their school. Schools from across Orange County have submitted awesome pieces of work and now it is up to you to choose a winner. Webinar Materials From Our January 17 AHSC Resources Webinar

On January 17, the Safe Routes Partnership’s California team hosted a webinar with LA Thrives, Enterprise Community Partners, LA County Bicycle Coalition, Housing California, California Bicycle Coalition and Southern California Association of Nonprofit Public Housing. The webinar provided tips and information on how to integrate active transportation infrastructure and programs with affordable housing developments for AHSC projects in LA County.

The Alliance for a Healthy Orange County is excited to host the 2017 Regional Active Transportation Forum on Friday, September 22. This year’s forum will focus on the intersection of active transportation and equitable development and how policy makers, active transportation advocates, and other partners can join forces to make Orange County communities smarter, equitable, healthier and sustainable for ALL.
