Preventing Violence Where Youth Live, Learn, and Play

This brief provides an overview of the burden of violence and state strategies to prevent and reduce violence within the context of the social determinants of health—where adolescents live, learn and play.

Violence is a critical issue in adolescence that can interrupt normal development. Homicide and assault-related injury affect thousands of teens each year, and injuries or exposure to violence have consequences for numerous aspects of health, including chronic disease, depression and unhealthy behaviors in adolescence and adulthood.
