Complete Streets in the South

2014-12-09T12:00:00

This webinar from December 9, 2014 explores the process used to create Complete Streets in a variety of southern settings.

Case studies include:

  • Efforts underway in a rural Kentucky county that is laying the groundwork for Complete Streets implementation at the local level.
  • The story behind the city of Memphis, TN, passing the 500th CompleteStreets policy in 2013. With a population of over 650,000 people, Memphis is the largest city in the state of Tennessee and was named twice by Bicycling Magazine as one of America’s worst cities for bicycling. Citizens, planners, and engineers worked together to craft the award-winning policy, and are now working on implementation.
  • A collaborative project in urban Broward County, FL, where many organizations are working together to implement a county-wide CompleteStreets initiative.

Speakers:

  • Beth Willett, Program Officer for the Built Environment, The Greater Clark Foundation, Clark County, Kentucky
  • John Paul Shaffer, Program Director, Livable Memphis
  • Anamarie Garces, Principal, Urban Health Solutions, Executive Director, Urban Health Partnerships, Broward County, Florida
