Stay Engaged with Regional Planning in Salem-Keizer!

During this period of uncertainty and change, transportation planning efforts are still moving forward for the Salem-Keizer area. Weigh in on important funding for Safe Routes to School, transit fleet upgrades, future city development and more!

“Our Salem” Moves Online

Our Salem is a multi-year project to update the Comprehensive Plan, which guides future development for the city. Well into the community-wide visioning phase, city planners are taking their efforts online to continue gathering feedback during this time of social distancing. City planners hosted a webinar on April 8, where they presented information on four different scenarios for long-term growth and how they compare to each other.

Key differences between the four scenarios include frequent access to transit, complete neighborhoods and how multifamily housing is distributed. There appears to be little difference between the scenarios in what is referred to as a “mode split” – which keeps walking and biking rates very low, with vehicle trips staying very high. We’ll be providing more comments and a deeper analysis in coming weeks. Watch the webinar and participate in the survey to let planners know what you think!

If you couldn't the webinar live, you can watch a recording of the webinar on the project website.

Regional Transportation Projects for FY 2021-2026

Salem Keizer Area Transportation Study (SKATS), the regional transportation planning agency for the greater Salem/Keizer area, is in the process of prioritizing projects in the region for the next 6 years. The SKATS Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) establishes the schedule and priority for the near-term funding and implementation of transportation improvement projects. SKATS invites you to review and comment on the FY 2021-2026 TIP.

The 6-year TIP includes projects and programs totaling nearly $170 million. Several of these projects would make bike/ped and transit improvements, and one project would provide an additional 3 years of continued funding for the new Salem-Keizer Safe Routes to School program. We’re especially excited by the continued support for SRTS, projects for safer crossings and transit fleet improvements!

Visit the Online Open House to review projects and provide comments. Comments on the TIP will be accepted until May 17, 2020.
