Happy Walk and Bike to School Month!
October is my favorite time of year. Fall has finally arrived, as well as the state fair in the great state of Texas. One other huge reason I love the month of October is that Wednesday, October 3 is Walk and Bike to School Day.
I’ve been seeing news articles from across the country, highlighting all the fun planning going on for October 3 and wanted to share just a few. The excitement in these communities is just palpable:
If you are planning an event, consider inviting a local policymaker there to join the kids in walking or bicycling to school. We have a whole toolkit available for you on the steps to take to do this, and recently had a webinar on “Engaging Policymakers: How Site Visits and Events Can Inspire Policy Change to Support Your Program”. Watch an audio-visual recording of it here. Also, it isn’t too late to register your event – join the more than 3,000 events registered already!
For so many of us out there, it is already Walk and Bike to School Day every day. But for those of you just starting out, I encourage you to make this October one of your most memorable ever and walk and bike to school all month long.
